Question
We have a Lab mix dog (Daisy) that is 13yrs old.  She has always
been in excellent health, but has been slowing down lately.
Obviously, we want her to live forever, but understand that she
will have to leave us some day.  My question is that she has not
eaten in the last two days, has been breathing heavy, panting
and occasionally whines.  She has been going to the bathroom
regularly and drinking water . . . just not eating. We are very
worried and do not want her to ever suffer.  Any ideas?

Answer
You should take her to the vet for an examination and some blood tests.  She may simply have a fever and infection that is causing the poor appetite or it could be something more serious like kidney or liver problems.

Try offering her some meat baby food, cottage cheese, yogurt, boiled burger and raw liver to see if any of those things spark her appetite.
