How do I know when I can take the cone shaped e collar off of my cat after she's been spayed? It's been one week. The incision is healed on the outside and there are no stitches hanging out, but she still wants to lick the area. I think this is partly due to the fact that there's some crusty substance around the incision left over from the surgery.

Answer
If her sutures have been removed and she has no oozing spots you can remover the collar. We usually wait 10 days for stitch removal but if hers are gone there is no point keeping the collar on. She wants to lick it clean yes.

If she still has sutures however, leave it on until they are removed or she will do it herself.
