irritated mole on dogs foot

Question
Our vet told us about 1 year ago that the mole on our dog's foot could be left alone. But, in the last 2 weeks, the dog has constantly been licking the mole and the fur around it. She stops licking it when verbally redirected. The mole is reddish/purple and is the circumference of a dime. It is starting to get raw from her licking it so much. It is on her foot between toes. Should we have it removed? Why might it be bothering her?  She has had the mole for a few years.  The dog is 8 years old.

Answer
Any tumor that ulcerates should be rremoved.  Between the toes is a difficult place to try and remove a tumor. We like to remove 2 times the diameter of the tumor to make sure that we get it all. In that location it is almost impossible. I have a laser to remove this type of tumor in a very tight place.
