Question
Hi!
Today, my dog was eating a bone and a piece got stuck between her teeth. We were able to take it out after 3 or 4 hours, but short before taking the piece out and still after, she has been lying on the floor and shaking while breathing in. She gets up and acts normal, but when she is lying, she starts to shake like she is having slight spasms. At first she was normal, but the bone really bothered her. Could the shaking be caused by that piece of bone she had between her teeth for a few hours?
Thank you

Answer
Doubtful. More likely from the trauma of having it removed. This is a good reason why dogs should never, ever be fed bones of any kind. Those same types of pieces of bone splinter off and pierce their intestines, and then you lose them.

Wolves and coyote can safely eat bones because they are eating the WHOLE animal, including fur and skin, which wraps itself around the bone fragments, safely allowing them to pass through the digestive system.

Don't feed bones. Period. If she is still shaking tomorrow then you should get her to the vets asap. Who is to say that a fragment she swallowed isn't already causing problems in her gut?

Too risky!! She could also be in pain, from the bones she ate or the one that was in her teeth. Shaking is commonly a sign of pain in dogs.
