QuestionHi,
Hopefully you can answer this basic question, although, it involves a diabetic dog. He is newly diagnosed, receiving insulin twice a day at 8 am and 8 pm. I've been feeding him his food at 7:30 in the morning and evening. Does this sound right? He used to eat at 5-6 pm when we eat, but figured I should hold off to closer to his shot. I can't get straight answers from his vet (actually went vet hunting yesterday to find a new one!). Thanks for any info you or anyone can provide.
AnswerHi Colette!
It does not matter what time you feed your dog his meals. As long as he gets a big snack 15 min before his insulin (small meal) he should be OK. I know many vets like dogs that are diabetic to eat on ly 2x's per day. But think, your blood sugar dips and bows severeal times a day. We in the cat world like them to eat several small meals per day.
get your second opinion :)
