Question
I have a ten gallon aquarium with one danio in it. I am going to get two convict cichilds. I want to move the aquarium to my room . How much water should I take out of the tank and should I just fill it up with tap water once it's in my room?(the water would have that chlorine remover in it)My last question is should I get two female convicts or two male convicts? (I don't want to breed them)

Answer
Hi Kevin
To move the aquarium, it's always recommended to remove all the water, or as much is reasonably possible from the tank.  Leaving water in just increases the chance of it leaking in the future.  I would fill up a bucket with the tank water, move the danio into that, move the tank, use another bucket to fill up part of the tank with fresh dechlorinated water.  Let all the gunk settle down, turn on the filter, then slowly add some of the new tank water in with the bucket holding the danio so he can slowly adjust to any new temperature or ph levels.

As for the convicts, for 2 it would be best for them to be in a minimum 30 gallon tank.  For one convict, a 20-25 gallon tank would be best.  Convicts grow to about 5-6 inches, and a 10 gallon tank is just too small for one convict.  Plus, they won't tolerate the danio too well either.  I think with a 10 gallon you're better off sticking with community tank type fish.  Danios prefer to be in groups of at least 3-5.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do and moving the tank!!
