Wanting To Get A Shark

Question
Hi there,

I'm what you'd call an intermediate when it comes to aquariums. I've had a 15 gallon tank for about 4 years so I know the basics but I have trouble deciding on what the best fish to get are. I was hoping to get some sort of a community shark or at least one that's fairly mild. I've had a Rainbow Shark before and he was very aggressive. I really like the Bala sharks but from my research I take it my tank would be too small for one? Basically I'm wondering if you could recommend the best solution or if there even is such a shark out there. Thank-you.

Answer
most sharks get over 1 foot long for a 15gal is too small for any shark that i know of.
the ID shark get over 4feet, the bala get over 1foot, the redtailed black sharks are nice but don't do well with the same kind.
keep in mind that "sharks" are actually of the catfish family and tend to get very large. you can try your hand at the clown loach they grow slowly and can last over 50years.
but eventually you will need a bigger tank.
try to research the fish you intend to buy and do a 1inch per gallon rule.
so if you buy a fish 6inch you need a tank 6 gallons minimum  but an 8gallon would work best.get all the maximum sizes of the fish you want total it up and you'll get the minimum tank size.
if you want better results i do 1inch for every 2 gal. and its worked best for me.
maybe one day if you get a 15foot pond you can get some more sharks.
hope this helps!
