what are some top level fish that can get along with angelfish in a 55 gallon tank also i would like more than 1 angelfish what is the ideal number of angelfish i can have

Hi Rob,

The number of Angelfish you could keep depends on how many other fish (if any) you may have in the tank. If there are no fish in the tank, then you could have a maximum of 3 pairs (6 Angels). Make sure you purchase quality breeding stock (if you are interested in breeding them). They should be bright, active, and swimming well, with erect fins.

A top-dwelling fish that would get along with Angelfish would be the Gouramis. They are great fish, with bright colors and good personalities. Hatchetfish also reside near the top, but you must keep the aquarium covered, since they are known to jump over 3+ feet in the air! Some floating (surface) plants will help, too.

Introducing the Angelfish last is recommended, in case they are slightly aggressive. Buy smaller Angels, and you can watch them grow.
