QUESTION: Hi Richard
I have a 10 gal. Fish tank for about 3 months now. I'm normally really good with fish but for the past 2 months it has been a never ending battle with losing fish. I've asked the "fish experts" at the fish store and they have told me how many fish can be housed in what size tank, the best tank mates and ectetera. But never told me what filter works the best. I have a medium tetra whisper filter (attached photo) how many fish will it be able to handle? By the way I love mollies and guppies.

ANSWER: Hi Destinee

Ok since they didn't tell you, I'll tell you that the filter you are currently using is worthless. Those in tank filters are good for nothing but moving the water around and should never used as a primary filter. For a 10 gallon tank, you'll need to get a Penguin 100B with a bio wheel. You can get one at PetSmart for about $25.

Also make sure you are not overcrowding your tank. A 10 gallon will only home 3 Mollies or 5 Guppies. I wouldn't mix Mollies and Guppies together, they tend to be aggressive with each other, especially in smaller tanks.

Hope this helps, good luck!

Richard

QUESTION: I forgot to mention both times we've tried to restock the tank my African dwarf frog has been the only survivor are they're any fish we can house with him that won't attack him?

Answer
African Dwarf Frogs are good for most community fish. Don't mix large fish, aggressive fish (Cichlids, Barbs,# Goldfish, Plecos, Crayfish, Turtles, other amphibians #newts, salamanders, African Clawed Frogs, etc#

Make sure your Frog has plenty of hiding spots like clay pots turned on side, hollow logs or caves. Also make sure the fish don't eat all of his food. #fish tend to eat all the food before the frogs get any)

Hope this helps, good luck!
