QUESTION: the gravid spot keeps going away every night does that mean she is miss carrying them and this is her first time having fry and she can't swim up. she looks like a box until u see her gravid spot then she is plump this are my questions

1 why does her gravid spot go away?
2 is she miss carrying them or going to have them?
3 how many can she have since it is her first time having fry?
4 why can't she swim up?
5 what does it mean when she is boxy but plump at the gravid spot?

Answer
Travis,
1. Her gravid spot does not go away every night. It is still there, and it is dependent on how you are looking at her.

2.  If she were miscarrying, you would see either dead fry or very small fry. She is a live bearer so there will be no eggs.

3. How do you know this is her first time with fry? IF this is her first time she can have a little as 12 fry, sometimes more sometimes less. As she continues to have babies, the numbers will increase but rarely do they have more than 30-40, but they can have as many as 80.

4.What do you mean "she can't swim up"? Is she swimming at all? Is she swimming on her side? How is she swimming?

5. The females are more boxy than the males. Since she is a silver molly, do the following. Turn the light off in the tank. After about 5 mins, shine a flashlight on the fish in question. Can you see small black dots inside her belly? If you can, those are the eyes of the fry. If you don't see them, chances are she is just a large Molly and that she is not pregnant.
