Question
I have 2 sevrums which i bought together thinking they would school. One is smaller and black or brown with silver stripes and the other is a light color and only a couple of half stripes. The light colored one dosent bother anyone but the other severum. It attacks it whenever it sees it and chases it around for no reason. The dark severum basically lives in hiding and dosent move unless its to swim away from being attacked! What can I do?!

Answer
Hi Danny,
Unfortunately Severums do tend to be this way. My severums always did exactly what you described. The only thing you can try is to 1.) increase the number of severums to help distribute the aggressive levels. In otherwords so its not a one on one battle constantly. Something like 5-6 severums together would probably be best. Or 2.) Move them into a larger tank with plenty of hiding places and other fish to distract the aggressive one. Other fish don't necessarily have to be cichlids but they could even be Black skirt tetras which I've had excellent success keeping with severums before. Or 3.) You may have to seperate them. Its a sad truth that sometimes cichlids don't want to live with anyone and no tank size is big enough for them all to get along. Plenty of times I've had to separate my severums for life.

All you can do is try your best. I really hope things get better but keep in mind there is a high chance the severum will continue to make life miserable for the other one.
