Upside down Molly (swim bladder issue)

Question
Hello,
I just recently(2 weeks ago ish) bought a 10 gallon tank and am cycling with fish. I have 2 female dalmation mollies. One of the mollies I believe is pregnant and had become extremely aggressive with the other molly. I think the non pregnant molly has got a swim bladder injury. She is hanging at the bottom of the tank upside down, she seems slightly "s" shaped, and is not really moving her back end. She makes an occasional mad dash every so often to try to correct herself but quickly goes face down to completely upside down. She was fine up until last night. I saw the other molly harrassing her then this happened right after. Is there anything I can do for her, or just euthanize?
Thank you so much,
Bethany

Answer
Hello Bethany:  She may have a spinal injury which could present as an S shaped body.  She may also have a intestinal blockage which could also present as an inability to maintain a straight spine.  You can not cure a spinal injury in your fish so I would suggest tat you offer her brine shrimp for the next few days to see if she gets any better.  The brine shrimp have tiny shells on them that act like a laxative and will help her pass an intestinal blockage if she has one. Does the fish poop?  Does she eat???? You may also want to keep the tank on the dark side or at least dimmer for her.  Please keep me posted and report back to me the water chemistry levels too.  Since this tank is cycling or has cycled it will be important to monitor the chemistry of the tank water.... dave
