Question
In the last 2 weeks my tank water is turning greenish.  I had a 5 gallon tank for 2 years in my kitchen but just changed to a 10 gal in Jan.  Because of limited space I have an in tank filter. I have 2 gold fish(I know they will end up needing more space)  There is no algae on the glass.  I am blacking the tank during the day and leaving the light out. I changed the water & treated the tank 3 days ago.  Do you think the filtration could be part of the bloom.

Answer
Karen,  Yes definitely. Unfortunately you are going to put a better in tank filter in it and they can be very costly or you can get a back filter you can hang it anywhere on the side even to save space. You should be pumping almost 10x's your tank size an hour. Especially with goldie's. If you get a better filter on it and you use some crystal clear it should be fine. If you are using water from the same place you used in the other tank it wouldn't be phosphates watch overfeeding and you have everything else covered. The algae is harmless to your goldie's. Don't forget your goldie's like cracked frozen peas one each once a week (don't forget to remove the shells) and if you get a veggie clip from the pet shop it has a suction cup and put a slice of orange meat out once a week they will love you. It is great for them since they have vitamin C deficiencies in captivity. Good Luck, Tina
