black moor goldfish

Question
I have a black moor approx. 2 yrs. old. He/she (don't know sex) is in a 55 gallon tank with 5 other goldfish.  Dewey(my black moor) has started to fade in color mostly on his sides and belly to a goldish color and also around his eyes.  I am not too concerned about this, but now he has what looks like a bump on his anal area. It's white and not too pronounced- almost like it's just swollen.  The other fish are extremely interested in it, one in particular, so he is getting chased more than I care for.  Can you give me any idea what this might be?  Dewey's behavior is otherwise normal.  Is the gold around the eyes related possibly or a separate issue?  I would appreciate any help you can give me.  I love this fish

Answer
Andrea,  Do not worry about the color changes they are normal for a Black Mor. At two years your baby is reaching her sexual maturity. They are hard to sex but in a case like this I can tell you that she is a she. She may may lay eggs or not. If she does the others you have if any are male they may fertilize them but unfortunately most will be eaten. If he starts picking badly or causing damage then worry. Until then it is normal behavior. If you have any problems get back to me. Good Luck, Tina
