Question
QUESTION: i have 3 jack dempsy how can i sex them i would like to see if ican get them to mate thanks for your help

ANSWER: Males will often be larger, more aggressive, and have pointed dorsal fins. The dead give-away though is the gill plate. Males will have little or no spangling (blue/green coloration) on the lower portion of their gill plate. Any spangling that they do display is usually pretty uniform in shape, dots.  Females will usually be smaller, and less colorful in general. Their dorsal fin is usually not extended or pointed. Again the dead give-away is on the gill plate. Females will typically have heavy splotchy, spangling on the lower portion of their gill plate.

Answer

Here are two pictures, the male is the first photo and is missing the markings on the bottom of the gill covering however the next photo is the female and you can see she has the blue spangles on the low part of the gill plate. Sorry they are in black and white, but you should still be able to see the clear difference.
