Question
I two 55 gallon tanks and have gotten Ick in both. I have treated them with Mardel Coopersafe. I have removed my two clown knife fish and put them in a 30 gallon tank together. When is it safe to put them back after I added the Coopersafe? Thank for any information you can give me?

Answer
Hi Hannah,

Knife fish are very sensitive to things other fish are not sensitive to.  I'd be concerned, yes, and I would not return them until the tank was spotless...no chance of copper leakage into their water.

I do not recommend using copper products to treat fish.  They work, however, many species are ultra-sensitive.

You should clean the gravel thoroughly, removing it and washing it many times with a hose, and also clean the aquarium, filtration, anything that could house coppersafe in it.

After it cycles again (in about 2 weeks) the knifes can go back to their home.

I certainly hope this helps and that I was helpful, professional and friendly. :)

It's sad your fish had Ich but it is good it's over with now.  :)

Happy fish-keeping!
