Question
QUESTION: I have had two large pink grommies for about 2 years, for the past few days one of them has layed at the bottom of the tank in one corner. Some of the other fish have gone by it and it seam to chase them away. What could it be?

ANSWER: Hi Ron,

By 'Grommie', do you mean Gourami? The Gourami may have a disease, but without a description or picture, it's impossible to tell. Here's what I would do. Perform 20% water changes every two days, along with a gravel vacuuming. This will reduce the risk of disease. It will also reduce stress, which may be the only problem.

see this link to diagnose and treat disease:

if you think that it's just the aggression form other fish that may be bothering it, then try re-arranging any caves, rock structures, or ornaments to reduce aggression.

Good Luck, and I hope your fish recovers!

QUESTION: Yes you are correct on the spelling sorry, I also have to other fish, one cat, to bottom feeders, and also i just got two new small gouramis. Could it be that maybe "she" might be ready to lay eggs for one of the new gouramis? It is just that I do water changes every two weeks and none of the other fish are showing any problems.

Answer
Hi Ron,

That's quite possible, is her belly very 'full'? If so, it may be because she is pregnant with eggs. if that's the case, you will want to put the pair into a separate breeding tank. If you don't have one, just make sure that your tank has some fine-leafed plants for the Gourami fry to hide in.

I would recommend doing 20% water changes as a normal routine.

Good Luck, and best wishes!
