Mickey Fish Babies

Question
Hi I just noticed that one of my Mickey fish gave birth to Babies. The only babies I see are 2 that look a decent size. Do you think that she gave birth to more and her and the other fish ate the babies? Should I take the 2 that are still alive out of the tank, or are they big enough to survive?

Answer
Hi Jaclyn,
Congrats on the babies!

Either your mickey mouse platy only had a few babies this time or more likely the other fish managed to catch and eat most of her fry. If you want to insure the remaining two babies survive, then you can put them in a "breeder net" or move them into a different tank. Or they may be safe among the other fish. I've noticed that even very large fish can become accostumed to having babies swimming around and as long as all the fish are well-fed they usually wont bother them.

I really hope this helps!
Best of luck!
Karen~
