Question
Hi again nicole..

Thanks for the advice..There aren't any Emperor or Penguin filters available in LFS here in the Philippines, i guess the only way i could get them is by ordering from the internet, so i bought an aquaclear 70 instead.. ive been running it for about 12 hours now, i placed some of my old sera filter wool from my old filter into the aquaclear's compartment to make the filter cycle much faster.. i still havent removed my old overhead filter to avoid any ammonia spike.. are there any things that ive missed?

Answer
Hi Paolo,

Nope! Everything sounds perfect. When you rinse out the filter media, make sure that you dechlorinate the water you are rinsing it in if it has chlorine in it. The water shouldn't be ice cold or boiling hot either, try to get it lukewarm. This way, you won't kill or hurt the bacteria that is on the media. Some folks use only aquarium water to clean their filters, but I feel dechlorinated water works just as well.

I clean my AC media about once a month. Sometimes I use filter wool myself - although I just use cheap PolyFill (polyester fiber, also called "batting" in the craft stores). This I throw away and replace in about a week, maybe two weeks at the most. I hope that helps!

Take care,
Nicole
