Question

mystery fish
Hello,
   first time poster here, I was given a mystery fish by a friend and I can't seem to figure out what type it is. I was told it was a "prehistoric grouper" but I can't find anything fitting that title on google. The closest thing I found was a humpback grouper but my fish is freshwater. It looks like it may be some type of cichlid. I wasn't sure how to upload more than one image so I have included a couple links:

It was difficult to get a decent picture because he keeps hiding in that shell when I move around. He is orange (though you can't tell from the picture) with black stripes near the head and spots near the tail. He is about 3" in length and doesn't appear aggressive. Again he is freshwater. Thanks!

Answer
Hi Chris;

I retrieved your question from the question pool...

I think your fish is a type of African Cichlid.
Do a web image search for some in the "Altolamprologus" family, perhaps "Altolamprologus calvus".
