Identifying a fish

Question

Unknown cichlid
Richard, I have searched and searched for a similar fish to find out what type cichlid this is. I know the red one is a Jewel. I now have the Jewels in their own tank, with a bunch of babies! This yellow one has dark brown stripes. I am not sure if it's male of female. He's in a tank with a couple male jewels, electric yellows, (I think one male one female) A blue and black striped one I don't know the type, and a silver and a black one I don't know the names. Anyway, this guy is the king of the tank. I spotted today one single, very tiny little baby. He's yellow. And going off my knowledge of fish fry, I am guessing about a month old. This would explain the recent rise in aggression in the tank. What I can't figure out, is WHO the mommy and daddy are. I know the big yellow  guy is EXTREMELY protective, so I am guessing he is one half of the parents. I'd like to know his name. Can you help?

Answer

Kenyi Cichlid
Hi Sue

I'm pretty sure this is a male Kenyi Cichlid. Male Kenyi Cichlids are yellow, the females are blue. I'm not surprised he's the King of the tank, they are an extremely aggressive fish, especially when breeding. I've attached a clearer pic for you to compare, but I'm almost positive it is a Kenyi.

I hope this is helpful to you, good luck!

Richard
