hi,
in my 3ft tank i have pearl cichlids would these be ok with a black tailed shark? i also have 5 male guppies and a bottom feeder   wb thanx shaun

Answer
Hi Shaun
One of the sites I use to figure out tank sizes-this one here,

http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/aquarium_sizes.php

shows that your 3 foot tank is most likely a 30 gallon tank.

I'm also assuming you're talking about bala sharks when you say black tailed shark(?):

So, if that's the case, I would say no it's not a good idea, just because of your tank size.  Bala sharks grow to about 14 inches, and do prefer to be in schools.  Pearl cichlids grow to about 10 inches, so even they would need a larger tank then what you currently have as well.  If it was inded a larger tank, over 100 gallons, I think you would probably be ok to mix the two together though.

If I'm wrong on those assumptions, let me know.  Otherwise, hope that helps and let me know if you have more questions.
