guppies and bettas

Question
Hi, I am going to get a few guppies for my betta in my 19 gallon tank. I heard that male guppies (which I'm planning to get) fin nips other males and they are also schooling fish so I have to put them in schools. But if I put a female with the male they'll breed and I'll get too many fish. So what's the real solution? Is it true that male guppies nip each other?
Or should I just choose another fish?

Thank you a lot

Answer
I have many male guppies and none of them nip each others' tale.  The only problem that you can get with bettas and male guppies is that the male betta may mistake the colorful tails of the male guppy as another betta and attack.  This all depends on the betta.  In the case of guppies and bettas, if you female guppy were to give birth, they male betta would enjoy live food and control the population.  You can try it, just have a backup ready if your betta doesn't like the guppies.
