Question
Hi, I heard that cycling is to convert ammonia to Nitrite then to Nitrate. But if you have an ammonia remover (neutralizer)  or something to take out ammonia would you still need to cycle since the beneficial and nitrifying bacteria won't have anything to convert?
I have never tried this even though I have been using cycled tanks for the past 3 years.

Thank you.

Answer
Hi,
It may work eventually to rid the tank of toxins such as ammonia and nitrite, but as the fish produce waste and it goes through the filter, the filter will not have built the proper bacteria to fight them, so the ammonia, and nitrite after a while, will most probably just rise again, and you will have to re-cycle the tank.

A good question though!

Best wishes,
Kathryn
