Question

Angel fish w/cauliflow
Is there any cure for my angel fish?  She has a viral growth on mouth.  I understand it was probably caused by stress. I heard it can be cut off..is that true?

Answer
Hi Christine,
Oh! that poor baby.

I haven't experienced such a thing with any angel I've had before but I know they (and other species) can be susceptible to this type of viral growth that unfortunately it can't be cured and can make feeding impossible if the growth becomes too much on their mouth.

Sometimes a fish gets the infection one way or another but it can also be genetics as well. It is a very rare illness. Surgery can be done. But I would never advise you to try such a thing without help of a fish vet. The fish will need to be put under anesthesia and carefully operated on. I wouldn't try it myself.

If she still is able to eat and swim normally, care for her as you normally would. If she struggles with life, then the best thing to do is put her to sleep in the most humane way known in the hobby at the moment and that is by the 'clove oil method'

You can read about it here -

Trust that I have used this method on a 12" inch oscar (who had a tumor) and it worked very well, there was no struggling and the big fish passed on very peacefully. Note that this works for all fish...

I'm sorry about your angelfish but I wish you the best!
Karen~
