artificial lighting for surface water plants

Question
Hi David,

Could you help me with these questions:

1. how many watts (flourescent) to use per plant?
2. whether to use daylight or warm white type flourescent?

I have water lilies and duck weeds, but if you can't be that specific, info for plants in general would still be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Reggie

Answer
I would use daylight florescent lights with a plant bulb as a secondary light source.  I would suggest 3 watts to each gallon of water as a general rule but because your plants are emergent or out of the water I would suggest 1.5 watts per gallon.  ... dave
