Could you help identify my fish?

Question

Unidentified fish
I 'inherited' this fish unexpectedly. I am in South Korea and was given this fish by someone leaving. She said he is an 'Asian Cichlid' but looks like none of the pictures I have googled so far. I attach an image here. He was one of two but bullied the other one very badly and when I got them their tank was filthy and the other fish died despite my cleaning the tank. I really want to care for this fish but need to know what he is. He is approximately 2.5-3 inches long. He is in a small tank 20/30/40cm (not sure how many gallons that would be). He swims mostly at the edge as if trying to get out. The rest of the time he hides in a barrel ornament at the bottom of the tank. He is quite aggressive if he hears me near the tank and when I am feeding him, he moves fast.
I don't know what size tank he needs.
If he needs company.
What food he needs to eat.
Whether he should be heated etc or have saltwater?? I really know nothing as was not expecting to have him.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

Answer
Hi Cat,
What an interesting fish you have there!

It looks like an African cichlid but I'm not an expert on africans in particular so I can't say what species exactly.

I will contact other people who may be better able to identify this fish and get back to you as soon as possible....

Take care,
Karen~

Hello, my guesses were similar to another expert...

Either
Melanochromis chipokae

or
Melanochromis auratus

look up those scientific names and see how well they match up.
