Question
i have a 9 or 10 inch oscar. i love that fish. but he has been on his own since about 2 inchs and only alows plecos in his tank. ive been wanting a eel can i put one in there with him or get anther tank. and im wanting to have a pacu tank can they live in a tank with 3 or 4 other pacus and how big will they get

Answer
Hi Trey

If the eel is larger than the Oscar when you introduce him, they may be ok together. When introducing new fish into an Oscar tank, it is a good idea to rearrange the decorations. Sometimes this works and sometimes not. Oscars are a highly intelligent fish.

I would keep to Oscars and forget about Pacus. Pacus can reach lengths of 3 feet long. They rarely reach this size in aquariums, 24" is more common for them, but this can stunt their growth and cause them health problems in the future. One Pacu would need at least a 200 gallon tank.

I had 2 Red Belly Pacus which got quite a bit larger than the size tank I had for them at the time. I had to release them in a private lake on my property.

Hope this helps, good luck!
