Question

POWDER BLUE DWARF GOUR
HI. I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S THE SEX OF MY POWDER BLUE DWARF GOURAMI (IF YOU NEED ANOTHER PICTURE I HAVE SOME MORE). MAINLY BECAUSE I WANT TO BREED THEM. ALSO DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVISE ON HOW TO BREED THIS SPECIES OF GOURAMI?

Answer
Hi there! Thanks for the pic, its perfect.

Looks like you have a male dwarf gourami. These little fish aren't too difficult to breed but the trick is actually obtaining a female! Petstores often don't sell females because they are  'drabber' than the males and therefore don't sell much.

Here's some examples of females...

I found this decent article describing some tips pn breeding dwarf gouramis and raising the fry.

http://www.gourami-breeding.co.uk/

The main keys to breeding are start out with a healthy and thriving pair. Setup the pair in a 10-gal spawning tank, keeping the temp in the low eighties and keeping the water level low, with lots of plant cover both for anchoring his bubblenest to and for nesting material because dwarf gouramis use bits of plant matter incorporated into their nests to make them sturdier. Feed both fish with high quality flake food supplemented with frozen meaty foods and keep the water quality in top condition with frequent partial water changes and the female should be ripe with eggs before too long.

After the pair have finished spawning, the female should be removed  while the male will guard and care for the eggs in the bubblenest. In a couple of days the eggs will hatch and the fry will continue to finish their early development in the bubblenest for about three days until they become free-swimming by which that time they should be fed. Infusoria, rotifers and commercial fry food can be fed.

Later, they will be big enough to eat baby brine shrimp and other types of small foods.

I do hope this helps and best of luck!
Karen~
