Goldfish and Pop-eye.

Question
QUESTION: I was told that Goldfish with Pop-eye, will eventually die.  I have two goldfish with Pop-eye - a black moor has only one eye affected, and a fantail with both eyes affected, but just a bit.  If they are going to die, should I just put them down now or not?  They swim, eat, and act normally.  They don't look like they are dying at all.  What should I do about this - euthanize or not?  They have already been given Maracyn Two for two five-day doses.  I was also told that you have to wait 1 - 2 weeks to see if the Maracyn Two has helped or not.

ANSWER: Hello Marian!
You should just keep using Maracyn 2. Just change the Maracyn 1 infested water and put Maracyn 2 in the fresh water.

QUESTION: Is it true they will die, even with the Maracyn Two treatment?  The Maracyn Two box says to only treat twice and stop the Maracyn Two.  I stopped the second dose on June 10/11.  If I treat for a second time for two doses, when do I start?  I just (Saturday) changed 40% water, vacuumed gravel, put new Charcoal in two filters, rinsed out one filter.  (I have a 50 gallon tank, two- Aqua-Clear 70 filters, and a good Bubbler.)  Jamie, from your group of helpers, is the one who told me they would die anyway, even after treatment, yet he also said to wait 1 - 2 weeks to see if improvement.  Those two ideas contradict themselves.  So, now I don't know what to do with these two fish.  He also said, Pop-eye was the final stage of this Bacterial infection, before death.  Which one of you is correct?

Answer
Hello Marian,

They are both right. It really depends on how serious the case is. If you treat it @ the first sight of the symptoms then it will probably be OK. But if you treat it @ the last second it won't make it, especially if you don't have a filter(s), heater, lighting, and not changing the water.
Hope this helps! xD
