Question

my jack dempsey
Hello recently bought a 1 inch jack dempsey it was just big enough to not get eaten by my catfish. all my other fish are much much larger then the JD but none of them get any larger then what they are now, 5 inches. I was just wondering how fast do they grow. The other fish are firemouth sevrum jewel cichlid and 2 silver dollars in a 50 gallon.thanks

Answer
The speed in which a fish grows varies on several things: the genetics of the particular fish, depending on what you are feeding it, how often you do water changes,  water parameters, and tank size.  They will generally grow to a full size of 7 to 8" in about 2.5 to 3 years (usually) and will get to at least 5 to 6" in it's first year. So, as you can tell, they do most of their growing in the first year or so, as long as they have not been stunted or stressed too much
