Apple Snail Siphon

Question
I bought an apple snail to pair with my betta about two days ago. I guess you would say it's a yellow apple snail... Anyhow, when I bought him from the pet store it was inactive and it's door was closed but when I got it home and upon closer inspection I noticed that it's breathing siphon is not a complete tube like the other one I had, if anything it looks more like half a tube. There is actually a large gap between the snail's shell and its body when it's completely open... I worry that this may be some kind of genetic defect but I'm not sure. The snail is not very big yet but it's lack of siphon worries me. The snail has had no problem eating and is pretty active. Is there something wrong and what should I do?

Answer
Hi Chanel,
That is interesting. I've never encountered such an issue but you might be on to something about it being a genetic thing or perhaps something to do with young snails that I'm not aware of.

Its good to hear he is eating well and is active. He must be fairing along quite well then. I'm happy to hear that.

Hope this helps!
Karen~
