Question
I have a 10 gallon tank. I had 10 guppies, which I bought.  All 10 died, but not before birthing 2 babies.  the babies wouldn't eat food from the bottom, so I bought 2 green cory cats.  A few days ago I noticed little white dots on the glass of my tank.  I know guppies are live birth, so I tried looking on the internet to find out if the cory cats laid eggs.  I found out that they do lay eggs and it is cory cat eggs in my tank. I can't tell if I have 1  male and 1 female or 2 female cory cats.  the cory cats have been in my tank for 2 or 3 months. my question is "will cory cat females lay eggs, if there is no male in the tank?

Answer
Hi Roy,
It is possible for female cory cats to lay eggs when there is no male present. Telling gender differences isn't too difficult. Females are usually much larger in body size and often quite plump. But if it ends up you have all females where you can't manage to do a comparison then it is quite difficult.

Fertile eggs will turn amber-ish in color and will turn white and often fuzzy when not. They usually hatch after three days. Keep an eye out!

I hope this helps!
