My mickey mouse platy

Question
I just inherited this fishtank complete with several different types of fish and everything that goes with it. Today I noticed that my mickey had a greenish string looking substance that it was excreting. It then changed to thin white and stringy and back to the green. At first I thought she was laying eggs until I read that she was a live breeder. I am thinking constipation, but I'd love a second opinion and perhaps advice on what to do. Thanks!

Answer
Fish give off all types of odd colored and textured waste. I would not be concerned unless there are other odd signs. Some things to look out for are: oddly swollen belly, fuzzy patches, loss of coloring, salt-like spots, torn fins, not eating, or cannot balance and swim. Unless some other signs are presented it just sounds like the fish may have eaten something odd that got into the tank. I have seen all kinds of odd stuff, from green to red to long and short. Its all just normal. Just keep a close eye on the fish to make sure it does not start acting odd. If it starts acting odd or develops odd symptoms I suggest getting an internal parasite and disease treatment and treating it. However, only treat if the fish is sick, do not treat to prevent. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else.
