Question
hi karen thanks for your time, I have a 200 gallon tank that ive started to put various cichlids(17) in. would i be able to introduce some angels to the tank, or would they become too aggresive if i add them. all of the cichlids in the tank know are all about 1-3". i have also added african dwark frogs(2) and a pleco. i want to add 5 angels to the tank.

Answer
Dear Miguel,
I'm sorry to spoil your plan... But Angelfish don't belong in a aquarium with African Cichlids. They just don't hold their own well with aggressive and such territorial fish like Africans. African cichlids mainly do best with other african cichlids. I would watch out for your little African dwarf frogs as they could be targets for the cichlids aggression as well. Just watch everybody and make sure as this is how it always goes with any cichlid aquarium in my experience. You never know what might happen and sometimes things just never work out even if the books claim they will.

I do really love Angelfish and it's too bad African cichlids and Angelfish can't be together as that would be very beautiful. But Angelfish do best in a well-planted aquarium of their own with several peaceful tankmates and a overall quiet atomosphere.

With such a large aquarium you could have an amazing display with a very large colony of Africans!

I really hope this helps!
Best wishes,
Karen~
