goldfish issue

Question
Our goldfish is approaching 8 years old!  She is very large, on her 4th upgrade in tank.  It appears, for awhile now, she is losing her color, scales and the tip of her face looks like it is pealing off. The tank is clean, it is filtered w/aquarium salt and she is still eating.  She is not acting weird in any way. We added another fish about a year ago that is almost the same size now and is fine.  We have no idea what this is/could be or what we could do to/for her.  Any advice would be appreciated - THX

Answer
Laura,

You didn't mention if you test the water. Poor water quality or very high PH can cause fading. Sometimes they can fade due to too much ammonia in the water. Sometimes it could be the tank light. If the lighting is not full spectrum, a goldfish will fade. Also, its not uncommon for goldfish to change color a few times throughout their life. They can also fade with age.

I suggest checking the water perimeters and see if there is a spike in PH. If the fish is acting no different and the water perimeters are fine, i would say its just a color pigmentation change.
