Tank frame broken

Question
I have a 55 gallon tank and the frame is divided into two parts and uses two light bulbs.  The divider broke at the back of the tank and the glass and flip door are unstable and could fall into the water.  I was looking at a website that sells the plastic frame for the tank.  It does not seem very easy to remove and replace.  Can you give me any information on doing that short of purchasing a new tank (I really do not want to do that).  If I can replace the frame, I can replace the entire hood.  Also, I'm not sure if I can just purchase a hood and rest it on top.  Thanks!

Answer
I am assuming the divider you are referring to holds the glass on the top of the tank. Being this is not in the water you do have some more options as to what you can do with it however, you must be extremely careful when you fix it. I have never replaced this divider being I did not want to take the chance of cracking the glass. I have used liquid nails extremely carefully to secure the piece in the center that divides the glass top. However this required me to keep the tops off for a few days until it was completely dry. I put the liquid nails on a q - tip and applied it to the affected portion.
You could probably use silicone as well but this will take about 24-48hrs just to set. The silicone in the liquidy form is still harmful to your fish if you get in the tank so again you would need to use extreme caution. Best of luck!!!
