Question
Hi, i had a few questions about both of these.  I have a 55 gallon fish tank with about 10-25 fancy guppies from new born fry to adults.  The queestions are...  Every time one of the adult guppies has babies, she dies.  Do you know why this is happening?  I do believe i have hair algae. (just a piece or two not a lot)  How do i get rid of it?  I do have an algae eater (pleco) but he does'nt seem to eat it.  Could i put some balloon mollies in with the guppies too?  Also i was planning on also starting a 20 gallon long fish tank for the ghost shrimp.  Would a planted aquarium be a good set up for the shrimp?  could i put a few of these in the 55 gallon tank?  Also do they eat dead fish?  I thought i heard it somewhere, and just wanted to check.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
The female guppies most likely get worn out to a point of stress after birth. I've heard of this happening a lot. Hair Algae is a tough one. Though you might either want to get it out of there yourself if it's not a lot just clean it off what ever it is growing on or get an algae killing chemical for your water. It won't hurt your Pleco it will just make him run out of food in the tank which will require you to buy 'Algae Tablets' for the Pleco so he will have food until the algae grows back.  You can put balloon mollies in with guppies I used to have one in my tank and it fit in well. A planted aquarium would be great for the shirmp as they can probably feed off a little bit of the plants as well as any food that is put into the water.   Ghost shrimp will eat dead or dying fish and somtimes even ones that aren't dieing and just happened to swim too low. So if you are planning on putting them in with fish you want to be VERY careful. I would recommend starting with one with a 55 gallon and see how that goes.
