Question
Hello Karen,
I have bought a small ryuikin oranda mix. It is very cute. But the thing is that it keeps floating up(its body is sometime vertical)
But the creature is healthy and even eats food. Please help me before something disastrous happens!

Answer
Hi Srinivas! Good to hear what you've been doing to lately!

~Some Fancy goldfish can develop a swim bladder problem after gulping in food from the surface. Dry foods can absorb water from within the fish causing the swim bladder to be affected. This is most likely what your Oranda/ryukin cross is having. If available, feed him/her a frozen green pea that has been thawed and popped out of it's shell, (gently squeeze it between your fingers)if your new goldie is too small to eat a pea whole, carefully break the pea into smaller pieces and stick a piece on a clean tooth pick. Being extremely careful and gentle, put the piece near your goldie's mouth. He/she should notice it and gobble it right off the toothpick. I have done this with bettas with swim bladder problems and they eat the pea right away. If your goldfish will accept it, feed her the whole thing. You will probably have to repeat the pea feeding at least twice a day until he/she gets better.

If your goldie is cured with the pea feeding... From then on always be sure to soak her food in a small, clean cup with the aquarium water. Soak the food for a few minutes then pour the whole thing into the goldie's aquarium.
This will insure the food gets soaked up with water BEFORE the goldfish gulps it down and hence, preventing swim bladder problems!

I hoped I helped!
Always remember, I am more than happy to help you out all I can! If you have anymore questions just email me again!

Congrats on getting your new Oranda cross!
I am here wishing the very best to him/her!

Happy fishkeeping!
Karen~
