Question
hello,
i had my female betta fish for about 4 months now. I originally thought she was fat but she has gotten bigger and it looks like it is hurting her. Not only does she look sick, but she looks like she is struggling to swim. she eats fine but her belly is HUGE. She has this little really white little peck of stuff coming out of her. I thought maybe it could be dropsy (i did some research) but now i think she might just be pregnant. also, i read online she might have TB because her spine is a little curved, maybe because of her fat belly or i dont know. i cleaned the tank and hope that she doesnt have TB because it is contagious to human. What do i do? and also, i never witness her pooping. i have no idea. can you please help me asap, im afraid she is going to die.
thanks! candace

Answer
Hi Candace,
If your betta's scales are sticking out giving a "pinecone" effect then she most definetly has dropsy. They will also have pale feces as you said. Dropsy can be caused by a viral or bacterial infection. Unfortunatly, there is no effective treatment available. The only thing you can do is give the best possible food and water quality. If your fish does not improve, euthanasia may be in order.

Good luck!
Chloe.
