Question
I have recently started my 1st freshwater tropical tank and i only have 6 neon tetras just now.2 of them are acting very strange one (that looks to be female) stays low to the tank floor under a nesaea crassicaulis plant while the other stays above the plant. if any of the others come near either they chase them away. if you could give me any ideas it would be a great help. ive only had them for 2 days now its quite puzzling

Answer
Hi Jennie,
They may be trying to hold a small territory. It's a very interesting behavior I have witnessed a few times before with tetras and other small fish like cherry barbs. perhaps it is a pecking order situation. The most dominant fish gets the best spot around the security and comfort of the plant.

If only fish could talk!
