can I buy fish yet?

Hello, My tank has been cycling for 6 weeks now...lost 4 fish to ick and ammonia poisoning so surrendered last 2 fish to save their little lives...so currently have no fish in 55 gallon except 2 apple snail (2 inch) only feeding peas/squash...I did 30% water change today treating with Prime conditioner and Stability products.
And finally saw the ammonia drop from 1.0 to 0.5
Is it wise to buy fish yet?  Tomorrow?
If no, when can I?
If yes, how many (fancy goldfish 2 inch) can I add?
I am so anxious but don't want a repeat disaster of death!!!  (I am very new to this)

Hi "Tank Cycling";

Measure the level of nitrite (NO2) and if it's "zero" you can add one fish. Watch the levels and maybe add another one in another week or more. The key is to go slow. The beneficial bacteria needs time to compensate for each new addition. Too fast and you will see lethal toxin spikes again.
