White blob on back under fin.

Question

My Cory has a white blob that is located right where hi/her top back fin attaches on the back at the lowest side of the fin. On the very back edge.  It looks like maybe the fin got caught on something and it pulled it apart a little from his back.  Or is it some sort of parasite or fungus?  I am at a loss as to what to do for it.  it is eating and is healthy but the blob has been there for about 5 days or more.  It does not look like it is getting much bigger but it is not getting any smaller.  I would appreciate any information you can give me.  I have a 50 gal. bow front aquarium with 2 cory's, 2 rubber mouth Pleco's and 3 Angel's.  I do at least a 25% water change and gravel cleaning every week.  Today I did a 50% so I could clean under the rocks and slate really good.

Answer
Hi Cherly!
I saw the picture you sent along with your question & I can see the white blob (it was kinda blurry but I know its hard to get photos of your fish when they are swimming around. The blob is probably fungus because I've never seen ick so close together and so big. I've dealt with this problem before and it often is an injury that heals with time and clean water. Its too difficult to properly diagnose any illness at this point so simply keep a close eye on it and make sure it doesn't change or start looking fuzzy/furry orspreading on the fish which very likely would indicate an infection caused by fungus. If that's the case, you should try treating it with the Jungle Brand "Fungus Clear". You should also try the API StressCoat/Zyme. Stress Coat
has the healing power of Aloe Vera, is scientifically proven to reduce fish stress and heal damaged tissue.  It forms a synthetic slime coating and replaces the natural secretion of slime that is interrupted by handling, shipping, fish fighting, or other forms of stress.  Helps reduce susceptibility to disease and infection.  Helps heal torn fins and skin wounds.  Reduces electrolyte loss.  Also works instantly to remove chlorine, chloramines and ammonia from tap water, and neutralizes heavy metals. Stress Zyme improves the development of the biological filter and helps clean a dirty aquarium. It contains over 300 million live bacteria per teaspoonful that breaks down organic compounds that cause dangerous conditions such as ammonia,  nitrite poisoning, and low oxygen levels. Continuous use assures an active biological filter, cleaner aquarium, healthier fish and good water quality. No refrigeration necessary. It can be used with salt/fresh water aquariums

I'm sorry for typing this much for you to read. I tried to make it as simple as possible.
I hope this helps and feel free to ask more questions! :D
