Glass Tetra Injury

Question
Hi David,

I am new aquarium owner, 3 months.  I have a 45 gallon tank with about 40 fish (I worked up to).  One of my 6 Glass Tetras got nipped by my African Butterfly.  It looks as if his "inner fish muscles" are protruding.  Looks like a pink cotton ball.  He is not showing any signs of distress.  He swims all day in the filter stream and eagerly awaits feed time.  If he is showing no signs of distress and nor are the other fish, is it safe to leave him in the community tank?  He is the only one with this injury.  Hasn't spread that I've noticed.

Thank you for any advice you can give to me.

Answer
Hi Danielle:  You can separate him and treat him with malifix for his wound... or treat the whole tank... or you can just leave him alone and see if an infection starts... you may want to consider taking the African butterfly fish out and putting him in his own tank.... they are really aggressive.  I have two and my African cichlids even stay out of their way.  Keep me posted... dave
