Question
hi kelly
hope you can answer my question for me i have a 100 litra tank thats been running for two weeks now with 10 fish in a visi therm heater set at 25, aqua glow aq lamp on 10 hours, air pump for ornement and a fluval 4+ underwater filter  .
I really need advice on when and how to do a 20% water change ie: when to add dechlorinater and how long to leave new water in bucket.
Also my fluval pump is running fast should i stop it running out of the side and start running it out off the top  there is quiet a fast whirlpool on top of surfice water  .
any advice would be appreciated    thanks ian

Answer
Hello Ian,

First of all let me apologize for the delay. My internet connection is a bit slow and often it won't even work at all.

This is how to do a 20 percent water change:

1)The night before you do the water change put as much water as you'll need in a bucket. Add your coniditioner and let it set out over night. Now chlorine turns to gas in 45 minutes so if you wanted to skip out on the conditioner that's fine too, but if you want to be extra sure that your water is safe...go ahead and add it.

2)The next day, use a gravel vaccum and clean your gravel. You do this by starting the siphon and make like your stabbing your gravel and you start to see all the nasty debris being sucked up the tube. While it's cleaning your gavel, it will also be taking the 20 percent of water out at the same time. You're killing two birds with one stone.

3)Then take an algae scraper and wipe down the walls of your aqarium.

4) pour the water in that you set out the night before.

That's it!! Your done!! It's very simple.

About your Fluval. There is no need to adjust the speed of it unless your fish are having trouble swimming by the 'whirlpool' without being tossed every which way.

I hope that helps you some...write back if you have any other questions.
