cycling with betta fish

Question
Hi, I just got a 10 gallon tank that I'm cycling right now and it cycled for 12 days because I was on vacation and when I got back I put my Betta in there to cycle, are they good cycling fish? I'm going to take him out and put him in his old bowl when I get the fish for the tank, but should I cycle my tank with him or should I just buy a Molly to cycle instead?
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Garrett,
Bettas can usually stand the cycle. But like even with the hardiest fish, its best to make sure to test the water regularly for ammonia and nitrite and monitor these levels with the fishes well-being in mind. When the fish seems stressed then a water change is in order. 50% is a good amount.

Best wishes and I hope this helps!
