Question
I have had several fresh water 55 gal tanks. I started a new tank about 2 weeks ago and I have at this time only 2 Angles. The water is becoming milky. what should I do if the situation persist. I'm using 2 whisper 60's. I have never had this problem before.

Thank you

Answer
Hi
The cloudy water in your tank is the result of a bacteria bloom - most new tanks experience it at some point in the first few months of being up and running... The most common cause is over-feeding - if you only have a couple of angels in - perhaps there's a bit too much food going in?
The easiest way to clear this up is to give the tank a going over with your gravel-vac / python - eliminate anything that may have collected in the substrate. Additionally doing 25% water changes daily (or every second day if you're busy) over the next 4 to 5 days too will resolve most of the cloudiness - the rest will dissipate quickly enough. Always de-chlor your water when doing a water-change - specially in this case as you're going to be turning over the volume of your tank.
Lastly, there are chemicals available to address this (water clarifiers), but they only tackle the symptoms of the problem and take a toll on the cycling of your tank; I don't personally recommend them.
