Hi Jimmy,
Sorry I can't be more help. I know the size of the tank is proportionate to the amount of technology and hassle. However, you shouldn't need extra filtration if you put them on a diet.
I'm not a a giant expert, or anything, but I did kill a lot of tropical fish from overfeeding before I got hip to the problem.
