issue with fry getting sucked up in filter

Question
Hello, My  female swordtail just had about thirty fry that I  was  able to save. I  put the fry in a separate five gallon tank. But when I check the filter to make sure that it does not need to be rinsed out I always find one or two fry on the filter still alive remarkably. I am just curious as to how I can keep the fry from getting sucked up by the filter. I even tried cutting one of my old shrimp nets and putting that over the openings on the filter so it wouldn't suck up the fry, but the net made it so the filter was not working the way it was supposed too. Do you have any suggestions on what I should do? Should I buy a ten gallon tank and put them in there? The ten gallons have stronger filters so It probably wont affect the filters performance. what do you think? please help me with this ordeal. I don't want my tank to keep sucking up the fry.

Answer
You can take one of the Aquaclear aquarium sponges, and cut it so it fits over the intake. Simple as that.

I get fry stuck in my filter all the time, it doesn't seem to harm them at all and they can even find food and live under there for a week or more.  Just take them out as fast as you can and they should be fine.
