Question
"Hi Sarah,
Silver tipped sharks are often sold as freshwater fish, but they must have brackish water in order to thrive and sometimes need water 100% marine as they become an      , a specific salinity level of 1.005 to 1.015 works fine, when kept in saltless water these sharks develop dangerous skin conditions. Silver-tips grow up to 12" inches and need a large roomy aquarium such as yours with good filtration and water movement. These catfish accept all kinds of fish foods such as sinking tablets, pellets, flakes,  earthworms and small fish are some of its favorites, as well as frozen foods and freeze dried. As with any fish, variety is most important."

Since these fish need Brackish water can I keep them in the same tank with my other freshwater fish? Also, why would every pet store sell these fish as freshwater if they are not? I spent over $30 on these fish!!

Answer
Hi!
You can keep Silver tips in freshwater when they are young (2-3 inches) but as they grow they will thrive much better in brackish water.

The reason petstores sell so many of these fish is due largely in part to their name having the word "Shark" in it. Its a selling point. Since these fish grow large (up to 12 inches and bigger) they don't always make the best pet fish as they may outgrow some aquariums that lack enough turning room for them.

If you would rather not keep yours is it too late/not possible to get your money back on them?

I hope this helps!
